Group List

Group List Overview

The Group List section in DeskGate is the foundation for organizing users and building all reporting, monitoring, and control structures. Groups define how users are monitored, which features are active, and how data is collected and presented across the system.

Every report, chart, activity log, and operational view in DeskGate is generated based on group definitions. This makes the Group List a critical configuration area for administrators who require precise control and structured visibility.

Default Group Behavior

The Default group is an indelible system group and cannot be removed. When the DeskGate agent is installed on a PC, that device is automatically assigned to the Default group.

This ensures that every installed system is immediately visible and managed without requiring manual intervention, providing instant baseline control and reporting.

Creating and Managing Groups

Administrators can create custom groups by using the Add New Group option located at the top of the Group List. This allows users and PCs to be redirected into specific groups based on department, role, location, or operational need.

By assigning users to targeted groups, organizations can apply different monitoring rules, reporting scopes, and feature permissions without affecting the entire system.

Planned Group Features

Some group features are marked as coming soon and will extend group-based control even further. These include Global settings for general configuration, Calendar for date and time operations, and Scheduled tasks for automated workflows.

These upcoming capabilities will strengthen DeskGate’s role as a centralized, group-driven management and reporting platform.

Operational Value of Group-Based Management

By structuring users into groups and assigning features at group level, DeskGate allows organizations to scale monitoring and reporting without complexity. Group-based control ensures consistency, reduces configuration errors, and simplifies long-term management.

The Group List is the backbone of DeskGate’s operational architecture, enabling precise control, clear reporting, and flexible growth as organizational needs evolve.
